Delhi Police has registered a case of forgery against unknown persons after Bahriach MP Kamal Kishore wrote to Home Minister P Chidambaram on April 10 and initiated investigations into the matter.
Kishore, in his letter to Chidambaram, claimed that the letter head and signature used to recommend Lahiri's name were forged. He had asked the home minister to cancel his recommendation and order a probe into the matter.
A senior police official said there is nothing to suggest so far that Lahiri was involved in the sending of the letter.
Lahiri could not be contacted for comments.
"During the course of enquiry relevant documents were obtained. From the enquiry conducted so far and record collected, a prima facie criminal case is made out," the official said.
The MP came to know about the recommendation after one of his aides told him about the recommendation he had made. He was surprised at this and asked his staff to check the records.
