The Delhi government was today directed by the Delhi High Court to set up in two weeks a committee to look into the grievances of parents over the fees charged by all private schools in the city.
A bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Deepa Sharma said the parents and guardians would be at liberty to approach the 'Fees Anomaly Committee' in relation to any amount of fee or other charges levied by any recognised unaided school in excess of what is permissible in law.
"Directed accordingly. With these directions, the petition and applications are disposed of," the bench said.
The court passed the directions after additional standing counsel of Delhi Government, Naushad Khan, who appeared for the Directorate of Education, said the committee would be constituted positively within a period of two weeks from today.
During the hearing, advocate Khagesh Jha, appearing for several students of a minority school here, suggested setting up of the committee to enable parents register complaints either individually or collectively in this regard, which shall be disposed of by the statutory body by giving definite findings on the issues.
The petition was filed alleging diversion of funds and financial irregularities on the part of the minority school.
It had sought direction to reduce the fees, alleging that the school was already charging double the amount permissible.
