As the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister secured relief from the apex court, DIG Prisons P M Jaisimha told PTI, "The formalities for the release of Jayalalithaa from the Parapanna Agrahara Prison will be completed by evening."
He said the process for release has been set in motion amidst tight security in and around the prison premises.
As the news of the apex court granting relief to Jayalalithaa broke, groups of Jayalalithaa's supporters erupted in celebrations and danced in joy hailing their leader.
The entry point on the road leading to the jail is blocked at least a km away from it.
Earlier, the Supreme Court granted bail to Jayalalithaa after a bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu stayed the sentence and warned Jayalalithaa against causing any delay by seeking adjournment in her appeal in Karnataka High Court.
Police beefed up security in and around Hosur road on Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border, about 20 km from the prison complex, to prevent any untoward incident as many AIADMK supporters have been camping in the area in various lodges and resorts, anticipating their leader's release.
