Former BJP MLA Dinanath Pandey passed away Friday due to old-age ailments in a private hospital here, family sources said.
He was 85 and is survived by a son and four daughters.
Pandey, who had represented Jamshedpur East assembly constituency thrice between 1977 to 1995, was admitted in the hospital on Thursday.
Pandey had lost the 1985 assembly poll but won the seat again in the 1990, his son Ram Pukar Pandey said.
Pandey will be cremated in Subarnarekha burning ghat on Sunday, he said.
In his condolence message, Chief Minister Raghubar Das, who is now representing Jamshedpur East, described Pandey as a strong pillar of BJP and his death would be felt always.
"I have lost my guardian in the death of Pandey, who was soft-spoken and could mix with the people easily," Das said.
