Former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader and minister Indrajeet Saroj today joined the Samajwadi Party (SP) here in the presence of its chief Akhilesh Yadav.
Saroj, who was welcomed to the party by the former chief minister, said the SP gave him the freedom to act and speak, unlike his former party BSP.
"As there is an undeclared emergency in the country under the Narendra Modi regime, the same thing is there in the BSP," Saroj, erstwhile minister in Mayawati's cabinet told reporters here.
He added that he would strengthen the party and ensure that Yadav became CM after the 2022 state election.
"We will ensure that Akhilesh becomes CM again in 2022, but before that, in 2019, we will show the trailer by winning the maximum seats in the Lok Sabha elections," he said.
Speaking at the event Akhilesh Yadav called Saroj a "ground level worker" and said that such political events gives an indication of where the people of the state are going.
