Former Cong MLA rebels, to contest LS polls as Independent
Press Trust of India Sangrur (Pb) Former Congress MLA from the Dirb Assembly segment Surjit Singh Dhiman today announced that he would contest from the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat as an Independent, alleging that the sitting MP whom the party has re-nominated had meted out step-motherly treatment to him.
Two-time Congress MLA Dhiman who unsuccessfully contested from the Amargarh seat in 2012 Assembly elections alleged that Sangrur MP Vijay Inder Singla had meted out step-motherly treatment to him.
Dhiman, at a hurriedly-convened press conference at Dirba late this evening, claimed that those who were instrumental in his defeat from Amargarh were rewarded with various party posts.
Dhiman will cross sword as an Independent against Singla and SAD candidate Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa from the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat.
