A former city corporator has been booked for allegedly inciting a group of people to resort to violence during an anti-encroachment drive here, police said today.
A case has been registered against National Conference leader Resheeda Begum by police for instigating Gujjars to resort to violence, SSP Jammu, Atul Goel said.
Jammu Development Authority (JDA), backed by CRPF and police personnel, launched its anti-encroachment drive from Sunday to evict members from the Gujjar community, who have allegedly grabbed Rs 100-crore Gole Gujral colony's prime land in the city, he said.
Resisting the drive, they resorted to stone-pelting and attacked police and JDA officials during the drive in which 13 people including 7 policemen were injured on Sunday, they said.
Begum reached the spot and targeted JDA for the eviction drive and incited the nomad community, which turned violent and pelted stones and bricks on the team members, Goel added.
It may be recalled that last June 28 three people, including former corporator in Jammu Municipal Corporation, Rasheeda Begum were booked in an alleged land grabbing case in connection with a plot of prime land in Bathindi area in Jammu city.
