Former DFO sentenced to RI

A special vigilance court here today sentenced a former divisional forest officer (DFO) to rigorous imprisonment for 32 months after convicting him in a 21-year-old disproportionate assets case.
Special Court judge Bibhu Prasad Routray also imposed a penalty of Rs 77,000 on ex-DFO Abhaya Charan Khuntia failing which he would undergo an additional jail term of four months.
Khuntia was serving in Ghumusara South Division, Bhanjanagar and was the former DFO of Khariar in Kalahandi.
His house at Nayapalli here, official residence and office room at Khariar in Kalahandi district were simultaneously searched on July 17, 1993 by Vigilance officers.
After completion of investigation, charge sheet was filed and the special judge held Khuntia guilty of the charge of acquiring disproportionate assets of Rs 7,69,860. He was convicted and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 32 months.
