Former govt official gets 3 years RI in DA case
Press Trust of India Indore A special court here today awarded three years of rigorous imprisonment to a former Madhya Pradesh Food and Drug Administration Department official for amassing Rs 26 lakh worth assets disproportionate to known sources of his income.
Special court judge B K Paloda sentenced Vinod Kumar Mehrotra under Prevention of Corruption Act and also imposed a fine of Rs Rs 16.35 lakh.
The sentence was pronounced nineteen years after Mehrotra's places were raided. The court examined 58 witnesses and material on record.
Lokayukta police had raided three places of Mehrotra on November 15, 1997 following a complaint, Special Public Prosecutor Ashok Soni said.
After a detailed investigation, the prosecuting agency found that Mehrotra had movable and immovable properties worth Rs 26,61,672 whereas his legitimate or actual income was Rs 8,13,122, he added.
Mehrotra was charge-sheeted in April 2004, Soni said.
