Bhim Singh Ranga, who got superannuation last month, was appointed as investigation officer (IO) by the district police to probe into the Apna Ghar scandal in which several policemen were also allegedly involved.
"Ranga had been arrested on the charges of destroying evidences pertaining to Apna Ghar case," M S Mann, Additional Director General of Haryana Police (Law and Order), who is the chief of the SIT, said.
Instances of sexual abuse and torture of inmates of Apna Ghar came to light after a National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) team carried out a surprise raid on May 9 and rescued nearly 120 people, including children and women.
The scandal-hit home, being run by NGO Bharat Vikas Sangh, was sealed on June 9, three days after Haryana Police DGP R S Dalal announced the constitution of a Special Investigative Team to probe the case.
Police had so far arrested seven persons, including the shelter house caretaker Jaswanti, her daughter Sushma alias Simmi, son-in-law Jai Bhagwan and four others.
