Pronouncing the judgement today, Tindivanam Magistrate Saritha slapped two years imprisonment each under IPC sections 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) read with sections 109 and 120-B in connection with the case, which took place on September 29, 2011, in Tindivanam in Villupuram district of neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

The sentences would run concurrently, the judge said.

The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on him and in case of default of the payment of the amount, he should undergo another three months imprisonment.

Rajinikanth, an employee of District Education office in Tindivanam, and Aadhavan, a school teacher, who were also charged in the case, were also convicted and sentenced to undergo imprisonment for two years under each of the two sections and punishment would run concurrently.

According to prosecution, these two helped the minister to carry out the impersonation plan.

The prosecution said Kalyanasundaram, elected on AINRC ticket from Kalapet, had allegedly used forged documents as genuine to take the SSLC public examination when he was Education Minister of Puducherry.

Kalyanasundaram, Rajikanth and Aadhavan were on bail after cases were framed against them following a complaint from district education authorities regarding the fraud.
