"We tried to meet Mayawati yesterday at the Parliament to complain against local party leaders' regular demand for money and their behaviour towards us but after she did not meet us, we sent our resignations," Shukla told PTI.
Claiming that he and his wife practised "clean politics", Shukla alleged that local leaders demanded money often for party activities and they were unable to meet the demand.
However, Kanpur Zonal Coordinator of Bahujan Samaj Party, Ashok Siddharth refuted their allegations saying that Shukla couple was expelled from the party as they were not attending party meetings and were involved in "anti-party activities".
Shukla had joined BSP in 2005 after leaving SP and won by-election for Bilhaur Lok Sabha constituency same year. He contested for Lok Sabha from Akbarpur seat on BSP's ticket in the general election 2014 but lost.
