"In view of the fact that all the respondents have appeared before this court today, the bailable warrants issued against them are recalled," Justice T Sudanthiram said in his order.
The Judge had issued the warrants last week and directed that they be produced in court on June 20. They have been charged with engineering four fake surrenders in court in connection with the assault of advocate K M Vijayan on July 21, 1994, when he was about to leave from here for Delhi to move the Supreme Court against Tamil Nadu Government's reservation policy.
They had been acquitted of the charges on September 29, 1998 by the then Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate following which the CBI took up the case.
The five former police officials are the then Assistant Commissioner of Police I Durairaj, Inspector M Rangarajan, Sub-Inspector (SI) Venugopal, SI M Manickam and SI Krishnamoorthy.
While issuing the warrants the Judge had also directed the Registrar (Judicial) and Assistant Registrar, Criminal Side, to furnish a report giving reasons for the delay in serving the notice on the policemen for several years.
