Former Puducherry CM's mobile stolen after death: Relative

Nearly 19 months after the death of former Puducherry Chief Minister P Shanmugham, his relative today lodged a police complaint stating that the leader's personal mobile phone had been stolen and was being used by an unidentified person, police said.
Shanmugham, a bachelor, was staying alone at his residece at Nedunkadu here. He died on February 2, 2013.
T Balu, son of Shanmugham's younger brother P Thirunavukkarasu, lodged a complaint with Karaikal Superintendent of Police G P Palanivelu stating that after the death of Shanmugham, the family members failed to secure his personal mobile phone.
"I remembered about the phone only on Friday and immediately made a call to his number 9442400025 and was shocked to find that it was still active. One person named Anandan attended the call. When I explained that the phone belonged to the former Chief Minister, he disconnected the call," Balu told reporters.

Balu said he appealed to police to take steps to deactivate the SIM card, trace the person who was using it and take action against him.
"Since the number belonged to a VVIP, the person who is using it could potentially misuse it," he said, adding he was planning to meet Puducherry Chief Minister Rangasamy in this regard soon.
Palanivelu said police would soon initiate an inquiry on the compliant.
