Incidentally, Verma was the only SAI official whose name was cleared by the Union Sports Ministry as a part of the official contingent.
But since he has now been transferred to another department, he does not qualify to be part of the contingent.
"There is no chance of me going to the London Olympics as part of the delegation since I have been promoted to the post of secretary, parliamentary affairs," Verma told PTI today.
With just 24 days left for the London Olympics, the SAI has been left without a DG.
Verma had replaced Sayan Chatterjee as the DG, SAI in May last year. The post is equivalent to the rank of Additional Secretary.
Verma received his transfer order yesterday at a time when top officials in SAI are fuming over the Sports Ministry's decision not to send any SAI official to the London Olympics.
The former DG had proposed a team of 15 officials for the Games but the Ministry picked his name for the London trip.
