Former Senior Superintendent of Police Manohar Singh was today released from Jammu's high- security Kotbalwal Jail following a conditional bail given by the apex court, officials said.
Singh was released from the prison after spending four years and eight months behind the bars in connection with a case of murder of a former NC legislator's son Amandeep Singh, and fudging of evidence.
"Singh has been released from Kotbalwal jail here on the conditional bail given by the Supreme Court", an official of the Kotbalwal Jail told PTI.
It is pertinent to mention here that Court of Additional Sessions Judge, Jammu on March 5 this year had rejected the bail application of Singh.
SC had given conditional bail on the ground that he shall remain outside of the state of J&K and shall present himself with the Station House officer (SHO) on every Sunday at 11 am.
Amandeep was shot dead at his home in Shashtri Nagar locality here August 29, 2009 by Jatinder Singh alias Raja, son of an influential businessman. Amandeep's mother and NC former MLC Deepinder Kaur was an eyewitness to the murder of her son.
On September 28, 2009, The Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the murder of a former NC legislator's son Amandeep, had arrested three police officers, the then SSP Jammu Manohar Singh, SHO of Gandhi Nagar Police station Sultan Mirza and Sub-Inspector Satnam Singh in connection with the case.
The three were among the six police officers earlier suspended by the government for their alleged role in fudging the evidence and changing the weapon of offence.
