The foundation stone of Punjab's second Multi Product Mega Food Park here will be laid on September 26 by Union Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, a senior state government official said today.
"After Abohar the second park will come at Ladhowal in Ludhiana," Chairman Punjab State Agro Industries Corporation Amrik Singh Aliwal said, adding it will be developed at a cost of Rs 118 crore in 200 acres land.
"The food park will boost the state's economy and benefit a large number of farmers and businessmen. It will be a hub for food processing and agricultural products not only for Punjab but for northern India," he said
Setting up of 30-35 processing units would generate a large number of jobs. Several big food processing companies, even the Godrej Group, have shown interest in setting up projects here, he said.
The food park will have a capacity to process 63,000 tonnes of fruits and vegetables annually, the chairman said.
Punjab government is trying to operationalise this food park at the earliest.
