A local court today acquitted all the four accused in the gang rape of a 13-year-old girl two years ago, for lack of evidence.
The prosecution case was that 62-year-old Gopalakrishnan, looking after the girl after her parents deserted her, along with his friend 70-year-old Balu, had allegedly raped her several times. It was also alleged that Gopalakrishnan, the girl's maternal uncle, had also allowed his friends R Karuppasamy and S Karuppasamy, to rape the girl.
Unable to bear the ordeal, the girl narrated the incident to her lover, who also exploited the situation.
The girl then informed Gopalakrishnan's two sons, who lodged a complaint with police in February 2013.
Mahila Court judge M P Subramanian today acquitted all the four, as the prosecution failed to prove their guilt.
Moreover, it has also failed to provide proper evidence against them and there were many discrepancies in the deposition by the girl, the judge said.
