With the arrest of four persons including two juveniles, Delhi police today claimed to have busted a gang which allegedly used to puncture tyres of cars to steal bags from them and seized Rs 60 lakh from their possession.
Sikander (24), Suraj (24) and two juveniles were arrested by the Special Staff of South District Delhi police on Friday from Saket. Police also recovered Rs 59,34,500 and a motor cycle from them.
"We had come to know that the infamous 'Tyre Puncture Gang' is operating in Delhi following which informers were scrambled," police said.
"Finally, a tip off was received that gang members would come at Khokha Market, Saket for the disposal of stolen cash. Immediately, the team laid a trap and apprehended two persons. On search, Rs 49,34,500 in stolen cash and one motor cycle was recovered from their possession," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) BS Jaiswal.
During interrogation, it was revealed that the recovered cash was stolen from Gandhi Nagar, Delhi. At the instance of the arrested duo, two juveniles were also apprehended and stolen cash to the tune of Rs 10 lakh was recovered from their possession.
"Sikander and Suraj disclosed that they used to puncture the tyre of vehicle with a sharp edge instrument and when the driver or owner would be engaged in replacing the tyre, other juvenile members of gang would steal the bag or valuables from the car," said Jaiswal.
They also adopted another modus operandi that one of the gang members would throw 5-6 notes of ten or twenty denomination near the car and other members would tell the driver of the car that his money had fallen outside the car.
As soon as the attention of driver would be diverted in picking the notes from the ground, other juvenile member of the gang would steal bag or valuables from the car, police said.
