Four arrested for smuggling rare tortoise species

Four persons were today arrested for allegedly smuggling 59 tortoises of rare species, police here said.
Acting on a tip-off, the police nabbed the accused in a jeep from near Bilpur railway station and recovered 59 tortoises of rare species kept in plastic boxes this afternoon, SP Rural Brijesh Srivastava said.
They had brought the tortoises from Gadhiya Rangeen village under Shahjahanpur district and were on their way to sell them in Kolkata, he said.
The police have lodged a case and efforts are on to nab their associates.
