N Sudhakaran, a native of Vellodu in Erode, was apprehended by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) while he was loading rail track materials in a goods carrier van, with the help of other two accomplices, a Salem Railway Division release said.
Sudhakaran had approached a Senior Section Engineer, Permanent Way, and presented himself as an Indian Railway Service official and tried to take away railway track materials under the guise of taking them for the purpose of quality check, the release said.
Interrogation revealed that he used to pose as a railway official and take away railway properties and sell them to a scrap dealer at Perundurai in Erode, it said.
A search of the scrap dealer's shop P. Jeevanandam revealed railway track materials worth Rs.39,000/-and he was also arrested for unlawful possession of railway property, it said. Materials worth Rs.46,100 were recovered both from scrap dealer and Sudhakaran, it said.
The four were produced before the Judicial Magistrate-II court at Erode which remanded them to judicial custody for 15 days.
