Four arrested in gold robbery case

Police today arrested four persons who, along with six others, were allegedly involved in a gold robbery case.
Six robbers had looted 14 kg of gold along with Rs 2.5 lakh cash from the office of Manappuram Gold loan company situated in Dashmesh Nagar locality, while four others were standing outside, on July 27.
ADCP (Crime) Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said four accused including had been arrested and 5.3 kg of gold, two country-made pistols and six cartridges had been recovered from them.
Those who had been arrested were identified as Uttam Kumar alias Deepu, resident of Nabha, Dharminder Singh, Karan Kumar and Vinod Painter, all residents of Ludhiana.
ADCP said Deepu was the alleged mastermind behind the robbery.
A few months ago, he had taken a loan of Rs 65,000 against gold ornaments from this branch office and there he noticed many lapses in the security of the office. Then made up his mind to loot the company office.

Bhullar said two days before the robbery, Deepu along with his accomplices did the recce of the office.
They managed to escape on motor cycles with the booty after the robbery, Bhullar added.
Four accused were arrested today on a tip off near Lohara a village on the outskirts of the city. Police said teams have been sent to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in search of the remaining accused, ADCP said.
