Four children drowned in a pond in Bihar's Rohtas district, a police officer said today.
The children drowned last evening while taking bath in a pond near Targanj village, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Alok Ranjan said.
The bodies were fished out this morning and sent for post-mortem at Sadar hospital, the SDPO said.
The victims have been identified as Golu (8), Aman (8), Ankit (7) and Dipu (12), Ranjan said, adding that all of they had come over to their relatives' place for a house warming function.
The incident sparked off protest by the local people who blocked the GT road for some time demanding compensation to the affected families, the SDPO said, adding that the district administration has announced an ex-gratia assistance to the families of the victims.
