Four college girls drown in the Aji river during picnic

Four girls of a city-based college, who went to Aji river on the outskirts of Rajkot for a picnic, drowned to death today, fire brigade officials said.
"Four girls of the city-based Saint Tulsi college today drowned in river Aji of the district," Rajkot fire brigade's Chief Fire Officer K V Ghela said.
The girls who drowned to death were identified as Riya, Khushbu, Shivani and Vibhuti who are all between 20 years and 22 years, the fire brigade official said.
The deceased were students of the home science stream at Saint Tulsi College in Rajkot city, Ghela said.
"The girls went to the river Aji for a picnic. While taking pictures of the river, one of them suddenly slipped into the deep water and started drowning. Other girls tried to save her but they also drowned," Ghela said.
After receiving information about the incident, a team of the Rajkot fire brigade rushed to the spot but the girls had already drowned, he said.

Fire brigade officials fished out their bodies and handed them over to Rajkot police for further investigation, the official added.
The police has registered a case of accidental death and sent the bodies postmortem.
"We have registered a case of accidental death and sent the bodies to Rajkot Civil Hospital for post-mortem," Police Sub-Inspector K R Kapadia of Gandhigram police station of Rajkot city said.
