Bihar Industry Minister Jai Kumar Singh today informed the state Legislative Council that production of 'Neera', 'jaggery' and other related products of palm tree would start from April 15, 2017 in the state.
"We are going to start production of 'Neera', 'jaggery' and other related products of palm tree from April 15 in the state. We have set up four factories at Hajipur, Bhagalpur, Nalanda and Gaya for the purpose. Trial is going on at present. We will get it (factories) inaugurated at the hands of Chief Minister," Singh said.
He said while replying to debate on his department's budgetary allocation of Rs 843.26 crores for 2017-18.
The minister further said that these units will prove to be a 'manufacturing role model' for the country with regard to production of palm tree based products like 'Neera', a pre-fermentation version of palm tree juice, 'jaggery' and other items.
It may be noted that the measures to prepare Neera from palm tree juice is part of the state government's comprehensive action plan to increase income from palm tree in view of the complete ban on sale and manufacture of alcohol in the state on April 5, 2016.
Stating that the state government has come out with a good 'Start-up Policy' with Venture Capital Fund to promote entrepreneurs in the state, the Industry minister exhorted youths to become job creator instead of being a job seeker, if they have any innovative idea as the government is providing all possible help to them.
Singh said that state government will hold a global meet where industrialists like Adani and Ambani are most welcome but "our focus would be on small and medium enterprise."
The state government is going to organise a two day 'Start-up meet' from March 21 in the state capital, he added.
