Four gunrunners arrested, huge haul of arms seized

Four persons, including a state level shooting champion, were arrested in separate incidents for their alleged role in illegal supply of arms and a huge haul of pistols and ammunition was seized from their possession, police said today.
"A Munger-based illegal arms supplier Deepak Kumar Saha and his customer Mehraj Ali, native of Kithor in Meerut, were arrested on specific input near Indraprastha Park, Opposite Millennium Depot, yesterday," said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner (Crime) of Police.
Twenty automatic pistol of various calibre and 15 live cartridges of 7.65 bore were recovered from the possession of the duo, he said.
A team of Special Cell caught Mukarram Ali Khan, a resident of Pul Pehladpur in Delhi, near Kalindi Kunj Barrage yesterday and recovered a huge haul of ammunition from him.

"The ammunition recovered from Mukarram included 5,000 live cartridges of .22 bore, 500 Hollow point, 30 empty cartridges of prohibited 9 mm and 33 empty cartridges of .325 bore," said PS Kushwah, DCP (Special Cell).
Mukarram who completed his graduation from a university in Hyderabad, took to shooting in 2012 as he lived near Karni Singh shooting range. He went on to win medals at zonal and state level championships but after coming in contact with a Muzaffarnagar-based supplier of illegal arms and ammunition, he joined their trade, the officer said.

A team of Crime Branch also arrested an arms smuggler Mohammad Abid yesterday and recovered 10 half barrel guns and 10 live cartridges from him.

According to police, criminals in Delhi and NCR were in touch with this gang for procuring sophisticated weapons.
Munger, Khargone (MP), Meerut and Muzaffarnagar have emerged as the hubs of illegal arms supply to gangsters in Delhi and NCR. The help of local police is being sought to bust the manufacturing modules there, Yadav said.
