Four Maoists, including three women cadres, surrendered in Chhattisgarh state's Maoist-hit Bastar district today, citing disappointment with the outlawed movement and exploitation of lower rung cadres by senior Maoist leaders from Andhra Pradesh, police said.
"The cadres turned themselves in before senior police and administrative officials this afternoon," Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, SRP Kalluri told PTI.
"In the past five months, as many as 240 Maoists have surrendered and 303 Maoists have been arrested in the Bastar region," Kalluri said.
Those surrendered were identified as Podiyami Laxman (18), Murami Pallo (25), Mandavi Batti (26) and Ramo Veko (22), he said.
Based on information provided by Podiyami Laxman, who was a deputy commander rank cadre in the Indravati Area Committee of the Maoists, a 12-bore gun, a tiffin-bomb weighing around 6 kg and a hand-grenade were recovered from the Bijapur forests, the IG said.
Likewise, Murami Pallo was working as member of the Local Operation Squad (LOS) in Barsoor region of Dantewada district whereas Batti and Veko were handling Maoist activities as members of the Local Guerrilla Squad (LGS) in the same region, he said.
They were all allegedly involved in several Maoist incidents including, arson, murder, attacks on the police and other offences in South Bastar, the IG said.
The surrendered Maoists would be rehabilitated as per state government policy, they said.
