One such case recently came before a Delhi court which sent to jail four men who were arrested by the police for allegedly impersonating BSES officials and extorting money from people by conducting fake raids on their houses.
Metropolitan Magistrate Abhilash Malhotra remanded Rajiv, Mohit, Pradeep and Rakesh to judicial custody after the police contended that the four men had allegedly impersonated as BSES enforcement officers and were found to be using fake identity cards.
Police alleged that the accused were extorting money from the people during these fake raids at their residences.
An FIR was lodged on the complaint of BSES Yamuna Power Ltd DGM Mahesh Kumar saying they received information that on May 17, some persons will come to New Rajender Nagar in Central Delhi impersonating as BSES enforcement team.

The FIR alleged that the accused would visit houses on the pretext of raids against electricity theft or meter tampering and would extort money by posing as BSES officials.
When the accused could not give any satisfactory reply, the BSES team called the police and the four men were arrested.
The police have booked them for the alleged offences of cheating by personation, forgery for purpose of cheating, using forged documents as genuine and common intention under the IPC.
