Mali's chief prosecutor says four more bodies of soldiers were discovered this week, bringing to 25 the number of troops believed to have been killed by the country's coup leader.
Daniel Tessougue said the remains were found late yesterday in a Bamako cemetery. Several of their skulls appeared to have bullet wounds, including one that had a circular hole. Another skull had been partially blown off and Tessougue believes it was the result of an execution shot.
Following the discovery Tessougue said that Gen Amadou Sanogo, who led the March 2012 coup, has now been charged with assassination, in addition to the earlier charge of complicity in a kidnapping.
Sanogo is accused of having systematically eliminated soldiers who didn't back his rise to power. He is in prison awaiting trial.
