Four more WAP locomotives for Madurai rly division

The Madurai Division of Southern Railway has received four more energy-efficient WAP engines, developed by the Chittaranjan Locomotive Works.
The WAP locomotives are capable of hauling trains at speeds ranging between 140 Km and 160 km per hour, railway officials said here today.
According to them, the Madurai-Chennai Pandian Express, Tirunelveli-Chennai Nellai Express, Shencotta-Chennai Pothigai Express and Tirunelveli-Tiruchi Intercity Express would be hauled by the WAP7 locomotive.
With micro-processor controlled brake, self-power generation facility, the engine could save 15 per cent on energy, the officials said.
