A court in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district today awarded seven years' imprisonment to four Naxals, arrested last year on the charge of attacking a police team in the jungles of north Bastar.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Hemant Saraf held Manesh Markam, Visambhar Sahu, Rahul Kumar Baghel and Mahendra Kumar Komra guilty of involvement in the attack, said Kanker Additional Superintendent of Police C D Tandon.
The four had been charged under various sections of Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act, Tandon told PTI.
The rebels attacked a police team in the forests of Arenar in Kanker during a combing operation on August 3, 2012.
Naxals fled after the police retaliated, and no casualties were reported.
Subsequent search operation led to arrest of five Naxals; while the four were convicted today, the trial against the fifth accused is still pending.
