Four new stops were launched by the Indian Railways on Baramulla-Banihal section in Kashmir valley for the convenience of local population.
"On the request of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, the Ministry of Railways has opened (four) more halts on the Baramulla-Banihal line," an official spokesman said here today.
The new halting points are Razwan (Sanoor-Kalipora) between Budgam and Mazhome stations, Naidgam between Budgam and Mazhome stations, Ratnipora-Pulwama between Kakapora and Awantipore stations and Sangdan-Kulgam between Qazigund and Sadura stations.
People residing in these areas had made a representation to the Jammu and Kashmir chief minister for setting up these halts.
Mehbooba took up the issue with Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and even met him in New Delhi in November last year in this regard, the spokesperson said.
She had stressed that these halts were necessary for the convenience of passengers, students and employees, he added.
Baramulla-Banihal rail link has emerged as an alternative and convenient mode of transportation among the commuters as it has cut the commuting time considerably.
