Four new records set in National Junior Aquatic C'ship

Karnataka girl V Malavika hogged the limelight, winning her second and third overall gold medal this evening to boot a new national record in the 400 meter freestyle event.

She clocked 4:36.05s to eclipse the earlier meet record of Maharashtra's Kanchi Desai (4:39.68s) set in 2010.

Monique Gandhi, who came second with a timing of 4:36.47s, also bettered the meet record while Karnataka's Siya Manjeshwar finished third clocking 4:48.31s.

Tamil Nadu girl A V Jayaveena won the gold medal with a new national mark in the 50 meter breast stroke event clocking 35.42s. She broke the existing record of Priyanka Pridarshini of Delhi (35.71s) set in 2010. Maharashtra's Gandhi and Deeksha Ramesh of Karnataka grabbed the second and third positions respectively.

In the girls group-one 200 meter butterfly stroke final, Maharashtra's Rujuta Bhatt finished with a new mark clocking 2:25.44s while Gujarat's Vandita Dhariyal also bettered the meet record with a timing of 2:26.26s.

The old mark stood in the name of Pooja R Alva of Karnataka, set in 2007 at 2:27.00s. Simran Deepak of Karnataka came third in 2:30.59s.

In the boys 50 meter freestyle group-II final, Maharashtra's Viraj Prabhu claimed the gold with a new national record. He timed 25.39s to eclipse the existing record of 25.85s set by Himanshu Dhakad of MP last year in the heat.

Punjab's Deshdeep Ghai finished second in 25.47s.
