Four posing as army recruits held for forging documents

Four men claiming to be army recruits were arrested after the documents they submitted for formal joining at the Artillery Centre here were found to be fake, police said today.
The accused, hailing from Rajasthan, were held last night after the officials at Army's Artillery Centre alerted the local police after examining the documents.
"The four men were arrested under various sections of IPC for forgery and cheating by producing fake transport certificates and other documents at Artillery Centre at Nashik Road where they had come to join as recruits," Deputy Commissioner of Police Shrikant Dhivare said.
The accused -- Balbir Gurjar, Tejpal Gopiram, Suresh Kumar Shivcharan Mahanto and Sachin Kumar Kishankumar were produced before a local court which remanded them in police custody until July 18.
"During the verification, the Artillery Centre found the documents in possession of the quartet, like the transport certificates containing their residential address as well as the seal of Army and signature of recruitment officer fake," Dhivare said.
He said the forged documents were given to the accused by a Delhi-based "recruitment agent" who charged Rs 25,000 from each of them.

"Their joining letters containing the stamp of army and signature were found to be fake. The papers were in disorder," stated the complaint lodged by Artillery Centre.
However, the post the accused wanted to "join" is not known yet.
The DCP said the investigation in this connection is on and police is on the looking for the recruitment agent.
