Four sandalwood trees felled

Unidentified persons today felled four sandalwood trees on forest land on Noyyal River bank and made good their escape, police said.
Morning walkers found four out of six trees were missing in the area and immediately informed Forest Department, police said.
The department officials arrived at the site at Peruru and found that four almost fully grown trees were removed with battery-operated saw. Attempts were also made too chop two other trees.
The value of the felled trees was estimated at about Rs.Two lakh and search was on for the culprits, police added.
The incident comes close on the heels of felling of some sandalwood trees from a private farm couple of days ago.
