Anjali alias Rani Zaduram Kumbre (19) and a minor girl (17), both residents of Lavari village under Purada police station were held last night.

Two others-- an 18-year-old and 15-year-old, were arrested from their home in the same village this morning, they said.

The girls are allegedly active Maoist members in Korchi Dalam and a case has been registered against them, a police officer said.

Earlier, a team of Gondia Police had a brief encounter with the ultras at Kemul village last night after a team went to the village on a tip-off that Naxalites were holding a secret meeting there, he said.

"On seeing police the Naxals opened fire at them which was returned by the jawans. The Naxals beat a hasty retreat and fled to nearby forest area," he said.

Three rifles and 25 live rounds were among other things recovered from the spot.

On September 25, police had arrested two hardcore Naxalites near Salekasa village for trying to blow up a bridge.
