Free laptops for children of workers in unorganised sector

Maharashtra government has decided to give free laptops and tablet computers to the children of those employed in the unorganised sector.
The state would be facing Assembly elections next year.
The beneficiaries would be the children of Mathadi workers (loaders), construction workers and security guards who are registered with respective trade boards.
The state labour department said in a statement here today that the children from standard fifth to standard tenth, or those pursuing higher and professional courses would be eligible.
"Also, every worker from the unorganised sector who has to work braving the elements will be provided a tiffin-box, mosquito nets, blankets and quilts (worth total of Rs 5,000 or less)," Labour Minister, Hasan Mushrif said in the statement.
The process to identify the beneficiaries was in the final-phase, he said.
As many as five crore people are employed in the unorganised sector in the state, according to the government.
