In April last year, the London meeting proposal was mooted by a few members of the government-constituted Committee of Eminent Freedom Fighters in Srinagar.
However, in the committee's meeting today, which was presided over by Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, the proposal was rejected as there was no consensus among the freedom fighters over whether to hold a meeting in London, a Home Ministry official said.
The Ministry of Home Affairs will consult the Human Resource Development Ministry in this regard and an appropriate decision will be taken subsequently, sources said.
The meeting also discussed the proposal of introduction of NCERT textbooks on freedom fighters. The Ministry of Home Affairs will pursue the proposal with the HRD Ministry, sources said.
Rijiju assured the freedom fighters that the MHA will provide them identity cards.
