Freight earnings go up by over 8 per cent
Press Trust of India New Delhi Railways have earned Rs 22,795.55 crores from freight traffic during April-June 2013 as compared to Rs 21,027.96 cr during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 8.41 per cent.
Railways carried 256.79 million tonnes (MT) of freight during April-June 2013 as compared to 244.81 MT carried during the same period last year, registering an increase of 4.89 per cent.
Out of the total earnings of Rs 7471.30 cr from freight traffic during June 2013, Rs 3360.90 cr came from transportation of 42.33 MT of coal, followed by Rs 668.91 cr from 9.82 MT of iron ore for exports, steel plants and for other domestic user.
The national transporter earned Rs 660.35 cr from 8.23 MT of cement, Rs 563.70 cr from 4.15 MT of foodgrains, Rs 447.67 cr from 3.60 MT of petroleum oil and lubricant (POL), Rs 473.48 cr from 2.96 MT of pig iron and finished steel from steel plants and other points, Rs 378.40 cr from 3.77 MT of fertilizers, Rs 120.01 cr from 1.49 MT of raw material for steel plants except iron ore, Rs 356.28 cr from 3.48 MT by container service and Rs 441.60 cr from 5.12 MT of other goods.
