French agency discusses Kochi Metro's extension plans

A two-member team of French development agency AFD, which is funding the Kochi Metro project, today discussed with KMRL officials possible funding options for the project's extension plans up to Kakkanad.
Priscille De Coninck (Project manager, Sustainable and transport division AFD, Paris) and Juliette Le Pannerer (Project coordinator, AFD, Delhi) visited the metro corridor including L&T casting yard near HMT Junction, depot at Muttom and CUSAT station work.
After the site visit, the team held discussions with KMRL's managing director Elias George and other senior officials.
KMRL and the AFD Mission also held discussions on the extension plans and possible cooperation in water transport and urban place making projects. AFD team also discussed the Social and Environmental Impact assessment reports with KMRL officials.
The team expressed satisfaction regarding the progress of the project and also said that they are keen to associate with Kochi Metro project in all possible ways including the extension proposals, a KMRL official said.
The AFD team will visit the main integration point of different modes of traffic in Kochi and the Vyttila Mobility Hub tomorrow.
They are also visiting the extension route, Kakkanad to understand the proposed alignment better, it said.
