A mobile application bringing to focus historical sites of Puducherry was today launched by the French Institute here.
Consul General of France Catherine Suard launched the application -'Pondicherry Past and Present'-- at the premises of the 62-year-old institute, a research oriented institution of the French government.
She said the mobile application presents nearly 94 geo-localised mapped sites.
The application originated from a more complete research carried out by researcher Jean Deloche attached to the French Institute some time ago, according to her.
She said Jean Deloche had produced a bilingual DVD on 'Pondicherry-past and present' some time ago.
A release from the Institute said the mobile application contains details of the history of the sites and buildings in English and in French and their images down the years.
In course of time, the details would be available in Tamil and Hindi, it said.
Raphael Mathevet, Head of the Ecology Department in the French Institute, highlighted the activities of the Institute established in 1955.
Jean Deloche highlighted the features of the mobile application.
