A fresh incident of illegal organ sale here has come to light with a woman complaining to the city police that she was cheated by middlemen and did not get the promised amount.
The city police said the case had been verified and it was prima facie established that the woman was lured by middlemen to sale her kidney for Rs 10 lakh.
The woman in her complaint to the police claimed that she had received only Rs 45,000 after her kidney was removed in a private hospital at Visakhapatnam in the first week of April.
The police said it was found that the middlemen had used fake documents to show that the exercise was an organ donation and not organ sale. The woman who sold her kidney is shown as the wife of the recipient, who is a native of Bhubaneswar, though she is neither remotely related to him or known to him.
"We are verifying as to whether the kidney recipient was the husband of the donor woman," said twin city Police Commissioner R P Sharma.
The accused are the same as that of a previous case, which is being investigated by Cuttack police.
The city police had last month arrested two persons, including the mastermind, in the previous case in which a rickshaw-puller had alleged that his wife was enticed by middlemen to sell her kidney for Rs 3 lakh but was paid only Rs 50,000.
Orissa High Court had taken suo moto cognisance of the illegal organ sale and had issued notice to the state government asking it to file details of the alleged removal of the woman's kidney.
