Fresh order on revising essential standards in old age homes:

The Tamil Nadu government today informed the Madras High Court that it has brought out a fresh Government Order (GO) on November 23 revising the minimum and essential standards to be maintained by old age homes run by NGOs.
This was informed by the Government Pleader M K Subramanian to the First Bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice R Mahadevan while hearing a PIL by S Krishnamurthy praying for a direction to authorities to frame regulations and appoint a regulatory authority to monitor functioning of old age homes within a time frame.
Subramanian submitted that out of 57 suggestions received on the matter from various quarters including the Union government and the State Social Welfare Department, only 30 were relevant and they were included in the GO and will be implemented with immediate effect.
The bench which recorded the submission and also recorded the assurance given by the Government Pleader that serious efforts would be made to take care of various aspects.
