Stating that the Trinamool Congress did not discuss fielding candidates to the Nalhati municipality in Birbhum district, DCC President Syed Siraj Jimmi said, "The Trinamool Congress has not shown any courtesy to our party. Now we do not have any other option but to field candidates in all seats."

He said "Nalhati is a Congress dominated area so the Trinamool Congress should talk to us before taking any decision."

On the other hand, Trinamool Congress district president Anubrata Mondal said, "As the son of Pranab Mukherjee is the sitting MLA we can spare one or two seats for the Congress if they want."

He said "They should come with a proposal as our party is at present in the majority in Nalhati municipality."

Incidentally, in the last civic body election, the Congress had bagged 11 of the total 15 seats.

But after the Lok Sabha election nine Congress councillors including Chairman Biplob Ojha joined the Trinamool Congress and the power of the civic body was transferred to it.
