The Odisha police today began a fresh investigation into the mysterious death of a youth from Manipur after the family members of the deceased alleged that their relative was killed.
"Though initially the incident was registered as a case of unnatural death, now the police has accepted it as a murder case. A murder case has been registered at the Capital Police Station here," commissioner of police R P Sharma said.
An additional DCP rank officer will probe the matter and a preliminary report is expected within three days, Sharma said.
The body of L Poumai (23), a resident of Manipur was found hanging in the premises of the official quarters of an OAS officer in Unit-6 in Bhubaneswar on December 2.
Sharma said the second autopsy will be done by a special team of doctors of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, in the presence of a Magistrate and the process will be video graphed. The body of the youth has been sent to Cuttack for a fresh autopsy, he said.
The commissioner said that the family members of the deceased youth have suspected foul play in the death and have lodged an FIR at the Capital police station alleging murder.

Sharma said the deceased was found in an injured condition near Barkul in Khurda district in Odisha on November 30. The Balugaon Station Superintendent admitted him at the local hospital. Later, he was shifted to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar for better treatment.
On December 1, the youth went outside the hospital and his body was found the next day on the premises of the OAS officer's quarters in Unit-6 area, he said.
The family members said the youth had left Dibrugarh to visit Bangalore where his brother is staying, by train on November 27.
"We have told the commissioner of police that we are not satisfied over the post mortem report. The Commissioner has agreed for a second post mortem by a special team of doctors in presence of magistrate and family members. An Additional SP will investigate the matter along with a DSP rank of police officer of Manipur," said Asi-Pre Jho, senior advocate from Manipur.
Jho said that they suspect foul play as the youth was admitted at the Capital Hospital on November 30 from where he went missing. The hospital authorities, however, did not inform it to the family members the deceased or police, he said.
