Fresh snowfall in J-K, HP; rainfall in parts of north India

An avalanche warning was issued today for Jammu and Kashmir, which along with Himachal Pradesh witnessed fresh snowfall while some northern states received rainfall.
As many as 26 north-bound trains were running late and five rescheduled due to fog, while the Srinagar-Jammu Highway, which connects Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, remained closed for traffic for the fourth consecutive day due to landslides at some places caused by intermittent rains and snow.
Four persons, including a toddler, were killed and three others injured this morning when their car collided with a bus coming from the opposite direction in Ferozepur district of Punjab, police said, adding the incident may have occurred due to dense fog.
It was a pleasant day in the national capital with the minimum temperature settling at 13.5 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season's average, even as foggy conditions in the morning affected rail services. The maximum temperature was recorded at 23.5 degrees Celsius.
A warning is in place for avalanche-prone slopes above 2,500 metres in Kupwara, Ganderbal and Kargil districts of Jammu and Kashmir, which is valid till tomorrow, Chandigarh-based Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) said.
Many areas in the higher reaches of the Valley witnessed snowfall overnight. The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir received 10 cm of snow and had a low of minus 9 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam, which serves as a base camp for the annual Amarnath yatra, recorded 7 cm of snow and the mercury there settled at a low of minus 6.6 degrees Celsius.

High-altitude tribal areas and other higher hills of Himachal Pradesh witnessed fresh snowfall while intermittent rains lashed the mid and lower hills, leading to furthur dip in mercury.
Keylong and Kalpa in tribal Lahaul and Spiti, and Kinnaur districts recorded minimum temperatures at minus 2.9 degrees Celsius and minus 1.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Manali 1 degrees Celsius, Shimla 3.7 degrees Celsius.
Sundernagar recorded the highest maximum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, followed by Una 20.8 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar 20.5 degrees Celsius and Shimla 15 degrees Celsius.
Various places in Punjab and Haryana witnessed fog, while rainfall also occurred at some areas in the two states and minimum temperatures dropped between two to six notches even as they continued to hover well above normal limits.
