Unidentified persons shot dead a person, identified as Nirisun Basumatary, at Telipara in Kokrajhar district this morning, police sources said.
Another group of unidentified people, armed with sharp weapons, launched an attack on a weekly bazaar in Kokrajhar and critically injured a trader, identified as Abdul Kalam.
Following the attack on the weekly bazaar, the Kokrajhar district administration clamped indefinite curfew on Kokrajhar town, official sources said.
Today's killing took the death toll to six since violence erupted after nearly a three-month lull on November 10 in the BTAD areas.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at a specially convened law and order meeting here last night directed the DGP and senior police officials to deal with the latest spurt in violence in the BTAD region with an iron hand.
Gogoi also directed concerned officials that if required, they could take the help of the Army and para-military forces to bring the situation under control.
Lower Assam's four BTAD districts and Dhubri were affected by widespread violence between Bodos and illegal migrant minorities which left 90 people dead and more than 4.80 lakh homeless in the July-August conflict.
