Nearly 26,000 people signed the petition for 'Justice for Richard Loitam' on the website change.Org, which was submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P Chidambram.
Along with the petition, the Coalition of friends and family of Richard Loitam also submitted a memorandum titled 'Justice for Richard and Other Victims from the Northeast Region of India Vis-a-vis Racial Profiling and Discrimination in Other Parts of India' to the Prime Minister.
"We hope that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister can help us get justice," Dr Loitam Rajesh, Richard's father said.
The Justice for Richard coalition was represented by MP Dr Th Meinya, scholar and activist Dr Malem and Mohd Shafikul Haque, who also met the Prime Minister in his office in the Parliament House yesterday.
The memorandum demanded fast track initiatives to deliver justice to Loitam Richard (19) from Manipur, who was murdered on April 17 at Bangalore and Dana Silva M Sangma (21) from Meghalaya who committed suicide on April 24 in Delhi due to the alleged humiliation by exam invigilators.
The petition went viral on the website Change.Org with over 26,300 people from all over India signing it, calling on the Commissioner of Police Bangalore to arrest the alleged killers of Loitam Richard, who was a student at Acharya institute of Architecture in Bangalore.
