In a fusion of Bengal and Peshwar, combining the delicacies of the two frontiers, world-renowned fashion-designer turned restauranteur Rohit Bal has stamped his mark in the world of gastronomy.
"In Veda the culinary adventure entails marrying Mughlai kebabs, Punjabi curries, flavors from Awadh, Dum Biryani of Hyderabad, with traiditonal grandma recipes of rural Bengal. Rohit Bal has introduced his signature fashion-fusion in the domain of the gourmet. This was the first such exercise in any place owned by someone from the fashion industry," a spokesman from Veda said.
Bal said "The city of Kolkata has witnessed a change in the taste buds of the foodies and has become a melting pot of various cultures as far as cuisine is concerned. Keeping the same in mind, the menu comes with a completely different look and feel with some of Veda's specialties like Gilafi Seekh Kebab, Bhatinda Murg, Paneer Harippa, Rawalpindi Chole and other such delicacies.
"The gelling may look incredible but that's what is fashion is all about," he said.
Actor Mimi Chakraborty, back from day-night shootings for her upcoming social-thriller flick Proloy, said "if there can be fusion in performing arts, music, costume designing et al, why can't it be replicated in food, and that too in a Mughal-era themed-place owned by a fashion czar."
Mimi, whose performances previously in first Bengali road movie 'Boijhena Se Bojhena' and 'Bapi Bari Jaa', were acclaimed, said she had to weather the highest number of 'accidents', cuts and bruises during shoot of the Raj Chakarborty potboiler and gorging on fusion dishes on the new Bengali new year was a welcome break from the grind of shooting in Purulia.
