FTA, terrorism to figure in Merkel-Singh talks

India-EU FTA, regional situation, and terrorism will be part of the agenda during talks between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who is travelling to Berlin on April 10.
The two countries are also looking at inking few pacts, including one in the field of infrastructure, during the visit of the Prime Minister, who will jointly co-chair the second Indo-German Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC) with Markel to take stock of the status of bilateral ties.
The India-EU FTA will be on the agenda during the talks between Merkel and Prime Minister Singh, who will be on a bilateral visit, German Ambassador Michael Steiner told reporters while asserting that both countries were in favour of early inking of the pact.
He said Germany has IGC with very few "carefully selected partners" and India was the first one in Asia with which his country initiated this "special format".
He also said India and Germany have similar positions in their respective regions.
